FAQ
Materials & Craftsmanship
Q: What type of materials are your pens made of?
A: Our pens feature handcrafted barrels made from a wide range of premium materials, including exotic and domestic woods, hand-poured resins, and specialty composites. Many designs incorporate genuine watch parts, abalone shell, and other distinctive elements. We also incorporate precious and semi-precious metals to enhance both visual appeal and long-term value. Each material is carefully selected to create a truly one-of-a-kind writing instrument.
Q: Are your pens handcrafted or machine-made?
A: The barrels of every 3 GEN pen are individually handcrafted from raw materials and shaped on a lathe to achieve their final form. Each is then sanded, polished, and finished by hand. These custom-crafted barrels are paired with high-quality, commercially produced metal components to ensure precision, reliability, and long-term performance. This combination allows us to create pens that are both functional and artistically unique.
Q: What type of finish do you use on your wooden pens?
A: We apply a professional-grade cyanoacrylate (CA) finish to all wooden pen barrels. This creates a deep, glass-like gloss while providing superior protection against moisture, wear, and daily use. The finish enhances the natural beauty of the material while ensuring durability for years to come.
Orders & Availability
Q: Do you offer wholesale or distribution options?
A: Yes, we offer select wholesale and gallery partnership opportunities. Because each pen barrel is handcrafted, availability is intentionally limited to maintain quality and exclusivity. Please contact us to discuss current offerings, pricing, and partnership opportunities.
Q: Do you offer custom or commissioned pens?
A: Yes. We welcome custom commissions and enjoy collaborating with clients to create meaningful, one-of-a-kind pieces. Whether incorporating specific materials, themes, or precious and semi-precious metals, we work with you to design a pen that tells your story.
At this time, we do not accept customer-provided keepsake materials (such as personal or irreplaceable items). Because each piece must be shaped and finished through a hands-on process, there is inherent risk involved. Out of respect for the sentimental and one-of-a-kind nature of these items, we choose not to work with materials that cannot be replaced.
Typical lead times for custom work range from 2–3 weeks, depending on complexity and material availability.
Q: Do you offer engraved pens?
A: Yes, engraving is available on select pens. Wood pen barrels engrave beautifully and are ideal for personalization. Resin-based pens, however, are not recommended for engraving, as the material can melt or react unpredictably during the laser process.
We offer engraving in gold, silver, bronze, and black finishes for an additional charge. Please contact us to discuss options and customization details.
Shipping & Processing
Q: How are your pens shipped?
A: We primarily ship via USPS and UPS. Shipping options are available at checkout so you can choose the service that best fits your needs.
Q: How long does it take from placing an order to shipping?
A:
-
In-stock pens: Orders are typically processed and shipped within 2 business days.
-
Custom or commissioned pens: Production time is generally 2–3 weeks before the item is ready to ship.
In rare cases—such as sourcing specialty materials or metals—production may take slightly longer. We keep you informed throughout the process so you always know the status of your order.
Warranty & Returns
Q: What is your warranty policy?
A: All pens are covered by a 30-day warranty from the date of purchase. If a defect arises within this period, we will repair or replace the item at our discretion. After 30 days, we are still happy to evaluate and service your pen when possible.
Q: What is your return policy?
A: Your satisfaction is important to us. If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, you may request a return or exchange within 30 days. Please contact us promptly so we can assist you with the return process.
Collector & Gift Questions
Q: Are your pens meant to be used or displayed?
A: Both. 3 GEN pens are designed as fully functional writing instruments while also serving as collectible art pieces. The handcrafted barrel and unique material combinations make each pen suitable for daily use or display.
Q: Are your pens suitable as gifts?
A: Absolutely. Each pen is a meaningful, handcrafted piece—often incorporating rare or precious materials—making it an exceptional gift for professionals, collectors, and special occasions such as retirements or milestones.
Q: Will my pen look exactly like the photos?
A: No. Because each barrel is handcrafted and made from natural or individually arranged materials, no two pens are ever identical. Photos represent the style and materials, but your pen will have its own unique character—this individuality is part of its value.
Care & Longevity
Q: How should I care for my pen?
A:
-
Avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat or moisture
-
Store in a protective case when not in use
-
Clean with a soft cloth to maintain its finish
With proper care, your pen is designed to last for years—and potentially generations.
